March 1st is National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day! We’re all familiar with the sticky substance, whether we grew up on the staple PB&J sandwich or wrinkle our nose at it. But have you ever thought about giving it to your dog? Peanut butter is rich in protein and healthy fats, as well as vitamins E and H. What does that mean for your dog? A healthy and shiny coat! In honor of the day, we’re sharing a few of our favorite ways to use it!
Have you ever had to fight your dog to take their medication? Submerging it in peanut butter is an excellent way to hide the pill and keep your clever pooch from knowing the treats ulterior motives.
Putting peanut butter in a Kong toy is another great way to give your dog peanut butter. This way, your dog has to work for her treat, which will keep her busy while you’re at work or need to get things done around the house. Other toys that are great for this kind of puzzle are the West Paw Tizzi and the West Paw Tux which are both dishwasher safe for cleaning!
Like with any treat, too much can have negative side effects, such as obesity, so make sure that you are giving your dog peanut butter in moderation. We also recommend making sure that the peanut butter you have does not have the sugar substitute xylitol as this can be harmful to your dog.
Regardless of how you and Fido prefer your peanut butter, Happy National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day!
